As was the case with Tomb Raider II, developer Core Design presents us with a host of satisfactory levels in less than inspiring locales, plus a generally darker tone. Even so, does your idea of an exotic adventure involve exploring the London Underground? What about a trip through Nevada, into Area 51? Does bumping into a dissected alien sit right with you? If you don’t care about where the adventure is taking place, you can take solace in the fact the levels feature good puzzles, though they require a lot of backtracking. However, the game goes out with a bang, as the final Antarctica levels are excellent, with a nifty mine car ride right out of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
The game is clearly not aimed at novice raiders, as the level of difficulty has been notched up considerably, to almost frustrating levels. As complex as they are, the level designer’s greatest achievement is never trapping the player in an area; however, a lack of clear goals often leave you fumbling around randomly pressing buttons and flipping switches. But the levels are full of things to do and feature fewer dumb enemies than Tomb Raider II, although as a consequence you’ll face considerably more traps.
The best new feature of Tomb Raider II is the addition of vehicles, although their implementation within the levels seem ocasionally dodgy. A few times you’re given insufficient space to meneuver them, and with every turn liable to send you off the edge of the universe, you too often find yourself carefully inching forward than pulling Mad Max stunts. The first traversing through the jungle feels like a chore. Parts of levels include ATVs, mine cars, kayaks, and speedboats, and while the levels don’t always do them justice, the controls are actually feel quite natural.

The 3D technology, which has received a minor tune-up in the form of colored lighting and smoke effects, is still rough. Those eager to try classic Tomb Raider might want to give the first two games a look instead.

When Tomb Raider was released in 1996 for the PC (on MS-DOS), it was ground-breaking, and began the series that made Lara Croft a super-star. Developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive, the game opened up a whole new world for 3D third-person action-adventure genre.
The sexy adventurer is back, in an updated version of her very first adventure. Tomb Raider Gold is a special edition of the original award-winning Tomb Raider game that started the Lara Croft phenomenon. The game includes four bonus levels.
This classic 3D third-person adventure takes our heroine around the world, in search of the fabled and powerful relic called The Scion. This ancient Atlantean artifact is scattered throughout the caverns and temples of the world in pieces. This journey will take Lara across the globe, to places like China, Tibet, Venice and even a sunken ocean liner!
Once you make it through all fifteen levels from the standard game, looking for the artifact, solving riddles, avoiding disaster (and death) and gathering clues, you can move on to new challenges in four new levels created justb for the golf version.
You will take Lara through icy caverns, ancient ruins, a lost tropical paradise and many other exotic locations. Along the way you must ward off bats, bears, wolves, alligators, raptors and even a monstrous T-Rex.

Lara will need her wits, agility and a full arsenal of pistols, magnums, shotguns and Uzis to battle the creatures intent on ending her career.

The Gold Edition of Tomb Raider adds two new chapters to the original release. The first chapter takes place in Egypt, and occurs several months after the events of Tomb Raider. Lara returns to the city of Khamoon, where she must investigate a hidden temple dedicated to the feline goddess Bast. The second chapter is a prequel to the first, and continues directly the events of the original game, starting with Lara sliding down the slope of the last level, preparing to deal with the remnants of the Atlantean race.
